The HandsOn VISTA program places VISTA members in the role of volunteer or program coordinator at multiple sites, infusing volunteer management competency into the community in a cost-effective manner. Members help our community service partners to build sustainability by creating the processes and tools needed to effectively access and utilize valuable volunteer resources.

HandsOn is seeking members who are self-starters, committed to service, and have a desire to improve their personal and professional leadership skills.

VISTA Commitment
• Full-time (40 hours a week) without outside commitments.
• One full year of service.
• Schedules may vary, but are typically 8am – 5pm, Monday through Friday. (some nights and weekends are required)

VISTA Benefits
• Living allowance of $10,380 (distributed in equal installments every two weeks during term). VISTA members earn a small allowance that basically brings them to poverty level wages. One of the founding principals of VISTA is for members to live at the economic level of the communities that they are serving in order to be attuned to the challenges of poverty.
• Choice of Education Award ($4,725) or End of Service Stipend ($1,200) upon successful completion of term
• Health care coverage
• Childcare assistance if eligible
• Student loan forbearance or deferment (for most Federal loans)
• Mileage reimbursement and relocation allowance
• Personal and sick time
• Professional development, leadership training, nonprofit experience, team building and camaraderie
